Description
These witch’s broom breadsticks are ridiculously easy to make and perfect for Halloween parties. Made with simple pantry staples, they’re buttery, garlicky, and fun to shape—even kids can help.
Ingredients
- 1 pound pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- Optional: 1 tablespoon sesame seeds or everything bagel seasoning
- Optional: Marinara sauce or ranch dressing for dipping
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- If using refrigerated pizza dough, let it sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes.
- Cut the dough into 16 roughly equal pieces, each about the size of a golf ball.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll each piece into a rope about 6 inches long and ½ inch thick.
- Pinch the top third of each rope gently to create a slightly thinner ‘handle’ section.
- Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, make 3 to 4 lengthwise cuts through the bottom two-thirds of the dough rope, leaving about an inch intact at the top.
- Gently separate the cut strips and twist them slightly to look like broom bristles.
- Place each shaped broom on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart.
- Mix melted butter, garlic powder, and salt together in a small bowl. Brush this mixture generously over each breadstick. Sprinkle with sesame seeds or everything bagel seasoning if desired.
- Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until golden brown on top and slightly darker on the bottoms.
- Let them rest on the baking sheet for 2 to 3 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack or serving platter. Serve warm with marinara sauce or ranch dressing for dipping.
Notes
Don’t over-flour your work surface or the dough won’t stick to itself. Keep your knife sharp for clean cuts. Work in batches if dough gets sticky. Watch baking time carefully—these go from golden to burnt fast. For extra gloss, brush with melted butter again as soon as they come out of the oven. Make extra; they disappear quickly.
