Description
These Kid-Approved Graveyard Dirt Cups with Gummy Worms are a happy accident turned family tradition. Layers of creamy chocolate pudding and crushed Oreo ‘dirt’ with gummy worms crawling out make for a fun, no-bake dessert that kids and adults love.
Ingredients
- 2 boxes (3.9 ounces each) instant chocolate pudding mix
- 3 cups whole milk
- 1 package (14.3 ounces) Oreo cookies
- 1 bag (5 ounces) gummy worms
- Optional: gummy spiders, candy bones, plastic tombstone decorations for garnish
Instructions
- Crush the Oreos: Place the entire package of Oreos (filling and all) into a large zip-top bag. Squeeze out as much air as possible, then seal it tight. Using a rolling pin or a heavy-bottomed glass, crush the cookies into fine crumbs. Set aside.
- Make the pudding: In a large mixing bowl, combine both boxes of instant chocolate pudding mix with 3 cups of cold whole milk. Whisk vigorously for about 2 minutes, until the pudding starts to thicken.
- Let the pudding rest: Let the pudding sit for about 5 minutes before layering to allow it to set up enough that it won’t run into the cookie crumbs.
- Layer the cups: Spoon about 2 tablespoons of crushed Oreo crumbs into the bottom of each clear cup. Press them down gently with the back of a spoon. Then, spoon the chocolate pudding on top, filling each cup about three-quarters full.
- Add the top ‘dirt’ layer: Sprinkle a generous layer of crushed Oreo crumbs over the pudding, using about 2-3 tablespoons per cup, to completely cover the chocolate.
- Insert the gummy worms: Take 2-3 gummy worms per cup and gently push them into the ‘dirt’ so they look like they’re crawling out. Get creative with the placement.
- Chill: Place the cups in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, but ideally 1-2 hours, to let the pudding fully set and the cookie crumbs soften slightly.
- Serve cold: Take them straight from the fridge to the table. Add any extra decorations right before serving.
Notes
For best results, use whole milk to ensure the pudding sets properly. Let the crushed Oreo crumbs sit out for a bit before layering to maintain crunch. Add gummy worms right before serving to prevent color bleeding. The texture improves after a day in the fridge.
