Spooky Glowing Green Halloween Punch: Easy 5-Minute Recipe

  • Author: Sarah Wasserman
  • Total Time: 5 minutes (plus overnight freezing for ice ring)
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

This spooky glowing green Halloween punch takes exactly five minutes to throw together, uses simple ingredients, and the glow effect (thanks to tonic water) makes everyone stop and stare. It’s pure Halloween magic—no fancy equipment, no complicated steps.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 liter lemon-lime soda (like Sprite or 7UP)
  • 1 liter tonic water
  • 1 quart lime sherbet
  • 2 cups pineapple juice
  • 1 cup frozen green grapes
  • 1/2 cup fresh lime juice (about 45 limes)
  • Optional: 1 cup vodka or white rum
  • Ice ring or large ice block

Instructions

  1. Make the ice ring the night before: Fill a bundt pan halfway with water. Add lime slices, green grapes, and a few mint leaves if you have them. Freeze for at least 8 hours or overnight.
  2. Juice the limes: Roll each lime firmly on the counter before cutting to release more juice. Cut in half and juice until you have 1/2 cup. Strain out any seeds. Set aside.
  3. Soften the sherbet: Remove the lime sherbet from the freezer and let it sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes. You want it soft enough to scoop easily but not completely melted.
  4. Combine the liquids: In your punch bowl, pour in the lemon-lime soda, tonic water, and pineapple juice. Stir gently to combine. Pour slowly to avoid excessive foam.
  5. Add the lime juice: Pour in the fresh lime juice and stir again. Taste—it should be bright and citrusy with a hint of sweetness. If you want it more tart, add another tablespoon of lime juice.
  6. Scoop in the sherbet: Using a large spoon, scoop generous dollops of lime sherbet into the punch. Don’t stir it in completely—let it float and melt naturally, creating a creamy, swirled effect.
  7. Add the frozen grapes: Drop in the frozen green grapes. They’ll float and bob around, looking like little monster eyes.
  8. Add the ice ring: Carefully unmold the ice ring by running warm water over the bottom of the bundt pan. Slide it into the punch bowl gently.
  9. Set up the black light: Position your black light near the punch bowl. Turn off the overhead lights and turn on the black light. The tonic water and lime sherbet will start to glow an eerie green.
  10. Serve immediately: Ladle the punch into cups, making sure each serving gets some grapes and a bit of sherbet. If you’re adding alcohol, stir it in just before serving.

Notes

The glow effect requires a black light. For best results, use regular tonic water (not diet) as it contains more quinine. The punch will start to lose its fizz after about an hour, so don’t make it too far in advance. For a dairy-free version, replace lime sherbet with dairy-free lime sorbet.
