  • Author: Sarah Wasserman
  • Total Time: 2 hours 10 minutes (includes chilling time)
  • Yield: 12 servings 1x

Description

A simple, refreshing holiday punch made with pomegranate juice, fresh citrus, and a touch of honey. Ready in 10 minutes with just 5 ingredients, this crowd-pleaser is perfect for any holiday gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups pure pomegranate juice
  • 2 cups fresh orange juice (about 4–5 large oranges)
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice (about 3–4 lemons)
  • 1/4 cup honey or simple syrup, plus more to taste
  • 4 cups chilled sparkling water or ginger ale
  • 1 pomegranate, seeds removed (for garnish)
  • 1 orange, sliced into thin rounds (for garnish)
  • 1 lemon, sliced into thin rounds (for garnish)
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs (for garnish)
  • Ice cubes or a large ice ring

Instructions

  1. Juice your citrus first. Roll your oranges and lemons on the counter with the palm of your hand before cutting. Cut each fruit in half crosswise and juice them. You’ll need about 2 cups of orange juice and 1/2 cup of lemon juice. Strain out any seeds but leave the pulp.
  2. Mix the juice base. In a large pitcher, combine the pomegranate juice, fresh orange juice, and fresh lemon juice. Stir gently. Add the honey or simple syrup one tablespoon at a time, stirring and tasting after each addition. Start with 1/4 cup and adjust as needed.
  3. Chill the base thoroughly. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or up to 24 hours in advance. The flavors meld and deepen as they sit.
  4. Prepare your ice ring. The night before (or at least 4 hours ahead), arrange thin citrus slices and a few pomegranate seeds in the bottom of a bundt pan or ring mold. Fill with water and freeze solid. When ready to serve, run the outside of the pan under warm water for about 30 seconds to release the ice ring.
  5. Assemble just before serving. Pour the chilled juice base into your punch bowl or dispenser. Gently add the sparkling water or ginger ale—pour it slowly down the side of the bowl to preserve the carbonation. Stir once, very gently, just to combine.
  6. Add the ice ring and garnishes. Carefully lower the ice ring into the punch. Sprinkle fresh pomegranate seeds over the top. Add a few extra citrus slices and rosemary sprigs around the edges. Serve immediately.

Notes

The juice base can be made up to 48 hours in advance. Do not add the sparkling element until right before serving to keep the bubbles fresh. For an alcoholic version, add 1 to 1.5 cups of vodka, white rum, or prosecco when adding the sparkling water. For a lower-sugar option, use sparkling water instead of ginger ale and reduce the honey to 2 tablespoons.
