  • Author: zack
  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Description

This recipe combines tender, caramelized yams with a crunchy pecan streusel topping, making it a comforting and irresistible side dish perfect for holidays or any special occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 34 large yams (sweet potatoes), peeled and sliced into rounds
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup pecans, roughly chopped
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel and slice the yams into 1/4-inch rounds. Arrange them in a single layer in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Pour this mixture evenly over the yams, ensuring each slice is coated.
  4. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes until the yams are tender.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped pecans, flour, brown sugar, melted butter, and cinnamon. Mix until crumbly.
  6. Remove the yams from the oven, uncover, and sprinkle the pecan streusel evenly over the top.
  7. Return the dish to the oven and bake uncovered for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the topping is golden and crunchy.
  8. Let the dish rest for 5-10 minutes before serving. The sauce will thicken as it sits.

Notes

[‘Choose firm, unblemished yams for the best texture.’, ‘Slice yams evenly to ensure they cook at the same rate.’, ‘Cover the dish with foil during the first bake to help the yams steam and become tender.’, ‘You can assemble this dish a day in advance and refrigerate it (without the topping) until ready to bake.’, ‘Toast the pecans lightly before adding them to the topping for extra crunch.’]
