Fluffy Honey Butter Dinner Rolls

  • Author: zack
  • Total Time: 2 hours 30 minutes
  • Yield: 12-15 rolls 1x

Description

These fluffy honey butter dinner rolls are soft, golden, and topped with a sweet, buttery glaze. Perfect for family dinners, holidays, or any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 1 tablespoon honey (for glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water (about 110°F) with 1 tablespoon of honey. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  2. Mix the Dough: In a large mixing bowl or stand mixer, combine the yeast mixture, warm milk, remaining honey, softened butter, egg, and salt. Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the Dough: If using a stand mixer, knead with the dough hook on medium speed for 5-6 minutes. If kneading by hand, turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes. The dough should be smooth and elastic.
  4. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  5. Shape the Rolls: Punch down the dough and divide it into 12-15 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and place them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  6. Second Rise: Cover the rolls and let them rise again for 30-40 minutes, until puffed up.
  7. Bake: Preheat your oven to 375°F. Bake the rolls for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
  8. Honey Butter Glaze: While the rolls are baking, melt the remaining butter and stir in a tablespoon of honey. Brush this mixture over the warm rolls as soon as they come out of the oven.
  9. Let the rolls cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Ensure liquids are warm, not hot, to avoid killing the yeast. Allow enough time for the dough to rise for fluffy rolls. Brush the rolls with honey butter both before and after baking for extra flavor.
