Easy Witch’s Brew Green Punch with Dry Ice (4-Ingredient Halloween Drink)

  • Author: Sarah Wasserman
  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 16 servings 1x

Description

This Easy Witch’s Brew Green Punch with Dry Ice is the simplest, most impressive Halloween drink you’ll ever make. With just four ingredients and ten minutes, you can create a bubbling, smoking cauldron of green goodness that will wow your guests.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (2-liter) bottle lemon-lime soda (e.g., Sprite or 7UP)
  • 1 (64-ounce) bottle green fruit punch (e.g., Hawaiian Punch Citrus Punch or Green Berry Rush)
  • 1 quart lime sherbet
  • 1 block dry ice (12 pounds)
  • Optional: gummy worms or plastic spider rings for garnish
  • Optional: 1 cup vodka or white rum (for adult version)
  • Optional: ice ring made from lime juice and water

Instructions

  1. Chill the lemon-lime soda and green fruit punch in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving.
  2. Set up your serving station: place a large punch bowl on a sturdy surface in a central location where the fog effect will be visible but out of reach of small children.
  3. Pour the entire 2-liter bottle of lemon-lime soda into the punch bowl, followed by the full 64-ounce bottle of green fruit punch. Stir gently to combine.
  4. Scoop the entire quart of lime sherbet into the punch bowl. Do not stir it in completely; leave some chunks floating for a creamy, frothy layer.
  5. Put on heavy gloves or use tongs. Remove the dry ice from its bag, wrap it in a clean kitchen towel, and gently tap it with a hammer to break it into golf ball-sized pieces.
  6. Using tongs, carefully drop 3-4 pieces of dry ice into the punch bowl right before serving. The dry ice will start sublimating immediately, creating a bubbling, smoking effect.
  7. Let the punch sit for 2 minutes to allow the fog to develop.
  8. Ladle the punch into cups, being careful to avoid scooping up any dry ice pieces. Add fresh dry ice pieces every 15-20 minutes to maintain the fog effect.

Notes

Dry ice safety is crucial: never touch dry ice with bare skin, never put it in your mouth, and never store it in an airtight container. Keep dry ice in a paper bag in the freezer with the bag open. For a dairy-free version, use dairy-free lime sorbet instead of sherbet. For a boozy version, add 1-2 cups of vodka or white rum. The punch base (without dry ice) can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
