Easy Overnight Oats Jars: Best Back-to-School Breakfast

  • Author: Sarah Wasserman
  • Total Time: 6 hours 5 minutes (includes refrigeration)
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

The soft, creamy texture of chilled oats against the slight pop of a fresh blueberry. These easy overnight oats jars are the simplest win you’ll have all week, perfect for back-to-school mornings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup milk (any kind)
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup fresh or frozen berries (blueberries, strawberries, or raspberries)
  • Optional toppings: sliced banana, chopped nuts, shredded coconut, peanut butter

Instructions

  1. In a small mixing bowl, whisk together 1 cup milk, 1/2 cup Greek yogurt, 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth.
  2. Stir in 1 cup rolled oats, 2 tablespoons chia seeds, and a pinch of salt. Mix well so the chia seeds are evenly distributed.
  3. Evenly divide the oat mixture between four 16-ounce mason jars. Each jar should be about half full.
  4. Gently fold in the berries. If using frozen berries, do not thaw them first.
  5. Add an extra splash of milk (about 2 tablespoons per jar) on top. Give each jar a quick stir.
  6. Seal the jars tightly and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, or up to 5 days.
  7. In the morning, serve cold straight from the jar, or microwave for 30-60 seconds for a warm breakfast. Add your favorite toppings and enjoy.

Notes

The liquid ratio is key: 1:1 oats to milk plus yogurt and chia seeds. Stir the jars again about an hour after refrigerating to redistribute chia seeds. For best texture, use rolled oats, not instant or steel-cut. Toppings should be added just before serving to maintain crunch.
