Easy Make-Ahead Charcuterie Board for Beginners

  • Author: Sarah Wasserman
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 6-8 servings

Description

A simple, quick, and versatile charcuterie board recipe perfect for casual get-togethers or last-minute entertaining. Features easy-to-find ingredients and make-ahead prep for stress-free hosting.

Ingredients

  • Sharp cheddar cheese, sliced
  • Soft brie or camembert cheese, whole or sliced
  • Goat cheese log, plain or herbed
  • Sliced salami or pepperoni
  • Prosciutto, thinly sliced
  • Chorizo, sliced (optional)
  • Assorted crackers (multigrain and rosemary flavors recommended)
  • Baguette slices, toasted
  • Red grapes, washed and left on the stem
  • Apple slices (dip in lemon water to prevent browning)
  • Cherry tomatoes (optional)
  • Mixed nuts (almonds, walnuts, or pecans)
  • Marinated olives (green or black)
  • Honey or fig jam
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs or thyme

Instructions

  1. Prep the Ingredients (15-20 minutes): Wash fruits and slice apples, toss briefly in lemon water to prevent browning. Slice cheeses into bite-sized pieces or wedges. Fold or roll cured meats for easy grabbing. Toast baguette slices lightly.
  2. Arrange Small Bowls (5 minutes): Place olives, nuts, and jam into small bowls or ramekins to keep the board tidy.
  3. Build the Board (10-15 minutes): Place bowls evenly spaced on the board. Arrange cheeses around the bowls with space in between. Fold or roll meats and nestle between cheeses. Fill remaining gaps with fruits, crackers, and bread slices. Add fresh herbs for color and aroma.
  4. Cover and Store (if preparing ahead): Wrap the board tightly with plastic wrap or store components separately in airtight containers in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Assemble right before serving to keep crackers crisp.
  5. Serve and Enjoy: Bring the board out about 15 minutes before guests arrive to allow cheeses to come to room temperature. Provide cheese knives and small plates for easy serving.

Notes

Keep crackers and bread separate until just before serving to avoid sogginess. Let cheeses sit at room temperature for 15-20 minutes before serving to enhance flavor. Roll or fold meats for better presentation and easier grabbing. Store leftovers properly wrapped and separate to maintain freshness for 2-3 days.
