Description
A lightened-up candy apple cocktail that captures nostalgic carnival magic without the sugar coma. Under 150 calories, this tart-sweet apple punch with warm caramel notes and cinnamon is perfect for Halloween parties.
Ingredients
- 2 oz vodka (preferably Tito’s)
- 3 oz fresh apple cider (unfiltered preferred)
- 1 oz fresh lemon juice
- ½ oz pure maple syrup (Grade A dark amber)
- ¼ tsp cinnamon
- ⅛ tsp nutmeg (freshly grated or pre-ground)
- Ice cubes (for shaking and serving)
- 1 tbsp maple syrup (for rimming the glass)
- 2 tbsp crushed graham crackers (or cinnamon graham crackers)
- 1 thin apple slice (for garnish, red apple for contrast)
- 1 cinnamon stick (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Prep your glass (5 minutes before serving): Pour 1 tablespoon of maple syrup onto a small plate. On another plate, spread the crushed graham crackers. Dip the rim of your glass into the maple syrup, then into the graham crackers, rotating gently to coat evenly. Set aside to dry while you make the cocktail.
- Combine the liquid ingredients: In your cocktail shaker, add 2 oz vodka, 3 oz fresh apple cider, 1 oz fresh lemon juice, and ½ oz maple syrup.
- Add the spices: Sprinkle in ¼ tsp cinnamon and ⅛ tsp nutmeg. Give it a quick stir with a spoon before adding ice.
- Shake it like you mean it: Fill your shaker with ice cubes (about 4-5 large ones or a handful of smaller cubes). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds.
- Strain and pour: Hold your prepared glass at a slight angle and strain the cocktail into it. Fill the glass about three-quarters full.
- Garnish and serve: Float a thin apple slice on top of the drink. If using a cinnamon stick, give it a gentle tap on the counter to release some aroma, then tuck it into the glass. Serve immediately.
Notes
Use cold ingredients for best results. Don’t skip the lemon juice—it brightens the flavor. Crush graham crackers right before rimming for maximum crunch. If you over-pour maple syrup, balance with extra lemon juice. For parties, batch the liquid ingredients (without ice) and shake individual servings.
