Description
A simple, crowd-pleasing appetizer featuring little smokies slow-cooked in a smoky, sweet barbecue sauce. Perfect for parties, game days, and casual gatherings with minimal effort.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds Little Smokies Sausages
- 1 1/2 cups barbecue sauce (smoky or spicy variety)
- 1 cup grape jelly (can substitute apricot preserves)
- 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine barbecue sauce, grape jelly, yellow mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce (if using). Stir until jelly is mostly dissolved and mixture is smooth.
- Pour the little smokies into the crockpot, spreading them evenly.
- Pour the sauce mixture over the smokies and gently stir to coat all sausages.
- Cover and cook on low for 2 to 3 hours, stirring gently once halfway through.
- After 2 hours, check sauce thickness. If too thin, cook uncovered for an additional 15-30 minutes until sauce is sticky.
- Keep warm on the crockpot’s warm setting and serve with toothpicks.
Notes
Use a smoky or slightly spicy BBQ sauce for best flavor. Avoid watery sauces as they don’t thicken well. Stir gently to keep sauce sticky and sausages intact. For gluten-free, verify BBQ and Worcestershire sauces. Can prep the night before by mixing ingredients in crockpot and refrigerating overnight. Frozen smokies can be used but add 30 minutes to cooking time.
