Easy Creamy Copycat Pumpkin Spice Latte Recipe Perfect for Fall 2024

  • Author: Sarah Wasserman
  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Description

A quick and easy homemade pumpkin spice latte that captures the cozy flavors of fall with simple ingredients and no mystery syrups. Perfect for busy mornings or chilly afternoons.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 shots (2 ounces / 60 ml) freshly brewed espresso or ½ cup (120 ml) strong brewed coffee
  • 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk (or 2% or oat milk for lighter/dairy-free option)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 g) canned pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 2 tablespoons (25 g) brown sugar or maple syrup
  • ½ teaspoon (2.5 ml) pure vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • Pinch of ground cloves
  • Whipped cream (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Brew your espresso or strong coffee: Prepare 2 shots (2 ounces / 60 ml) of espresso or ½ cup (120 ml) of strong brewed coffee. Set aside and keep warm. This usually takes about 5 minutes.
  2. Mix the pumpkin spice blend: In a small bowl, stir together ½ teaspoon cinnamon, ¼ teaspoon nutmeg, ¼ teaspoon ginger, and a pinch of cloves.
  3. Warm the milk and pumpkin: Pour 1 cup (240 ml) of milk into a small saucepan over medium heat. Add 2 tablespoons (30 g) pumpkin puree, 2 tablespoons (25 g) brown sugar, ½ teaspoon vanilla extract, and the pumpkin spice blend. Whisk constantly to combine and prevent lumps.
  4. Heat until steaming: Continue whisking as the mixture heats until it’s hot but not boiling—around 3-4 minutes.
  5. Froth the milk mixture: Remove the saucepan from heat. Use a handheld frother or whisk vigorously for about 30 seconds until frothy and creamy. Alternatively, pour the mixture into a jar with a lid and shake hard for 20-30 seconds.
  6. Combine coffee and milk: Pour the brewed espresso or coffee into your favorite mug. Slowly add the frothed pumpkin milk mixture, holding back the foam with a spoon, then spoon the foam on top.
  7. Top and serve: Finish with a generous dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon or extra pumpkin spice if desired. Enjoy immediately while warm.

Notes

Do not overheat the milk to avoid curdling or scorching. Use medium heat and whisk constantly. For stronger pumpkin flavor, add an extra tablespoon of pumpkin puree and more spice. Fresh homemade pumpkin spice blend is preferred over pre-mixed. The pumpkin milk mixture can be stored in the fridge for up to 2 days; reheat gently and froth before combining with coffee.
