Double Chocolate Chip Cookies Without Butter Easy Homemade Recipe

  • Author: Sarah Wasserman
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 24 cookies 1x

Description

A rich, chocolatey cookie recipe that uses oil instead of butter for a soft, fudgy texture. Perfect for satisfying chocolate cravings with simple pantry ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ¾ cups (220 g) all-purpose flour
  • ⅓ cup (35 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar
  • ½ cup (110 g) light brown sugar
  • ⅓ cup (80 ml) neutral oil (such as canola or vegetable oil)
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (175 g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk granulated sugar, light brown sugar, and neutral oil until smooth.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract to the sugar-oil mixture until fully incorporated.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring gently until the dough just comes together. Avoid overmixing.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips evenly.
  7. Use a tablespoon or cookie scoop to drop rounded balls of dough about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
  8. Bake for 9–11 minutes until edges look set but centers are still soft.
  9. Let cookies rest on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Notes

Use neutral oils like canola or vegetable oil for best flavor. Chilling the dough for 15 minutes before baking helps control spreading. Avoid overbaking to keep cookies chewy. Room temperature eggs blend better. For gluten-free, substitute flour with a gluten-free blend. For vegan, use a flax egg and dairy-free chocolate chips.
