Description
A quick and easy recipe turning fresh dandelion flowers into crispy, sweet fritters drizzled with honey, perfect for a snack or light dessert.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups fresh dandelion flowers, loosely packed, pesticide-free, stems and leaves removed
- 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon (4g) baking powder
- 1 tablespoon (12g) granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon (1g) salt
- 3/4 cup (6 fl oz / 180ml) whole milk (or almond/oat milk as substitute)
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 1 teaspoon (5ml) vanilla extract
- 2 cups (16 fl oz / 480ml) vegetable oil (canola or sunflower) for frying
- Honey for drizzling
- Optional: 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
- Gently rinse about 2 cups of fresh dandelion flowers in cold water to remove dirt or bugs. Pat dry carefully and remove any green stems or leaves.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1 tablespoon granulated sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
- In a separate bowl, beat 1 large egg with 3/4 cup milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
- Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry mix, whisking gently until smooth and pourable batter forms.
- Heat 2 cups vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or skillet over medium heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C) or a small drop of batter sizzles immediately.
- Dip each dandelion flower into the batter, letting excess drip off, then carefully place 3-4 flowers at a time into hot oil without crowding.
- Fry each side for about 2 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to flip and remove fritters.
- Drain fritters on paper towels and keep warm while frying remaining batches.
- Arrange fritters on a serving plate and drizzle generously with honey while still warm.
Notes
Ensure dandelion flowers are pesticide-free and dry before battering to avoid oil splatter. Do not overcrowd the pan to maintain oil temperature and crispiness. Add honey drizzle just before serving for best texture and flavor. For vegan or gluten-free adaptations, see variations.
