Description
These sliders combine juicy beef, sweet caramelized onions, and soft slider buns baked together on a sheet pan for an easy, crowd-pleasing game day snack.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ½ pounds ground beef (80/20 blend)
- 12 slider buns (soft and slightly sweet, like King’s Hawaiian or similar)
- 12 slices cheddar cheese (or preferred melting cheese)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 large sweet onions, thinly sliced (Vidalia or Maui onions)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- Pinch of salt
- Dill pickle slices (optional)
- Yellow mustard or mayo (for spreading)
Instructions
- Caramelize the onions: Heat butter and olive oil over medium-low heat in a skillet. Add sliced onions, salt, and sugar. Stir occasionally and cook slowly for 30-35 minutes until deep golden brown and fragrant.
- Prepare the beef mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until combined without overworking.
- Assemble the sliders on the sheet pan: Slice slider buns in half horizontally. Spread mustard or mayo on bottom halves. Form beef mixture into 12 even patties (~2 ounces each) and place on bottom buns. Top each patty with caramelized onions and a slice of cheese.
- Bake: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Place assembled sliders on sheet pan and bake for 12-15 minutes until cheese melts and beef reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
- Add finishing touches: Remove from oven, place top halves of buns over sliders, add dill pickle slices if desired, and serve warm.
Notes
Caramelize onions slowly over medium-low heat to avoid burning. Mix beef gently to keep sliders tender. You can caramelize onions a day ahead and refrigerate. Use a kitchen scale for uniform patties if desired. For gluten-free, use gluten-free buns or lettuce wraps. Serve immediately after baking to avoid soggy buns.
