Best Mummy Hot Dog Bites – Easy Kid-Approved Halloween Recipe

  • Author: Sarah Wasserman
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

These Mummy Hot Dog Bites are the perfect little hand-held snack that tastes like a soft, buttery pretzel wrapped around a juicy hot dog, with just a couple of squiggly mustard eyes. They’re fun without being fussy and taste way better than anything you’d buy at the store.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 8 beef or turkey hot dogs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • Yellow mustard or ketchup (for mummy eyes)
  • Optional: Everything bagel seasoning or sesame seeds
  • Optional: Pretzel salt or flaky sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line your baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll the crescent dough onto a clean cutting board. If using perforated sheets, press the seams together with your fingers until smooth. Slice the dough lengthwise into 8 strips, each about 1/2-inch wide.
  3. Take one strip of dough and wrap it around a hot dog, starting at one end and working to the other. Leave small gaps between wraps so the hot dog peeks through. Press the end of the dough strip gently to seal.
  4. Arrange the wrapped hot dogs on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about an inch of space between each one.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water until well combined. Brush this mixture generously over each mummy.
  6. Before baking, place two small dots of mustard (or ketchup) on each mummy for the eyes, or add them after baking for neater results.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and the hot dogs are heated through.
  8. Let the Mummy Hot Dog Bites rest on the baking sheet for 2-3 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.

Notes

If the dough tears while wrapping, press it back together with your fingers. The egg wash will seal any cracks during baking. For best results, add mustard eyes after baking to keep them neat. These are best served warm straight from the oven.
