Description

This crockpot turkey breast with garlic herb butter is a budget-friendly, set-it-and-forget-it meal that delivers tender, flavorful meat perfect for busy weeknights. It’s so good even picky eaters ask for seconds.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (4-5 lb) bone-in turkey breast, skin on
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon lemon zest
  • ½ cup low-sodium chicken broth
  • ¼ cup dry white wine (optional)
  • 1 small onion, quartered
  • 2 celery stalks, cut into chunks
  • 2 carrots, peeled and cut into chunks

Instructions

  1. Pat the turkey breast dry with paper towels. Rub olive oil all over, then season generously with salt and pepper.
  2. In a small bowl, combine softened butter, minced garlic, rosemary, thyme, parsley, and lemon zest. Mix until evenly distributed.
  3. Gently lift the skin of the turkey breast to create a pocket. Spoon half the garlic herb butter under the skin and spread evenly. Rub remaining butter all over the outside.
  4. Place quartered onion, celery chunks, and carrot chunks in the bottom of a 6-quart crockpot.
  5. Pour chicken broth and white wine (if using) around the vegetables. Do not pour over the turkey.
  6. Place turkey breast on top of vegetables, skin side up. Cover and cook on LOW for 4-6 hours or on HIGH for 3-4 hours, until internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  7. Remove turkey from crockpot using tongs. Place on a cutting board and tent loosely with aluminum foil. Let rest for 10-15 minutes.
  8. Optional: Strain cooking liquid into a saucepan, skim fat, and bring to a simmer. Whisk in 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons cold water. Cook until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
  9. Slice turkey against the grain. Drizzle with pan juices or gravy and serve warm.

Notes

Do not lift the lid during cooking. Always thaw turkey completely before cooking. Use a meat thermometer for best results. For dairy-free, substitute butter with olive oil or vegan butter.
