Description
These easy mummy hot dog crescent rolls are a fun and simple Halloween treat. Flaky crescent dough wraps around juicy hot dogs with tiny mustard eyes, creating a spooky snack that kids and adults love.
Ingredients
- 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 8 hot dogs
- Yellow mustard (for eyes)
- Everything bagel seasoning (optional)
- Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
- Garlic powder or onion powder (optional)
- 1 egg + 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Take the crescent roll dough out of the fridge and let it sit on the counter for about 5 minutes.
- Carefully unroll the crescent dough onto a clean cutting board. If using regular crescent rolls with perforations, gently press the seams together to create one solid sheet.
- Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, slice the dough into thin strips lengthwise, about ½ inch wide. You should get roughly 8 to 10 strips per sheet.
- Take one hot dog and start wrapping a dough strip around it, beginning at one end and working to the other, overlapping slightly. Leave a small gap at the top (about ½ inch) for the face. Don’t wrap too tightly.
- Place the wrapped mummy on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with remaining hot dogs and dough strips.
- Using a toothpick or the tip of a knife, dab two small dots of mustard onto the exposed hot dog area at the top of each mummy for eyes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and the hot dogs are heated through.
- Let the mummies cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack. Serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
Don’t overwrap the hot dogs—one strip per mummy is enough. Keep the dough cold for easier handling. Use a pizza cutter for clean strips. Space mummies about 2 inches apart on the baking sheet. For cheesy mummies, slice hot dogs lengthwise and stuff with cheese before wrapping. For spicy mummies, use jalapeño hot dogs or brush dough with sriracha. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Unbaked mummies can be frozen for up to 2 months.
