Best Easy 3-Ingredient Cheddar Sausage Balls Recipe

  • Author: Sarah Wasserman
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 24 servings 1x

Description

These lightened-up cheddar sausage balls with hot honey mustard are quick, easy, and perfect for game day or meal prep. Made with lean turkey sausage, sharp cheddar, and Bisquick, they come together in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound lean turkey breakfast sausage
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1½ cups Bisquick baking mix
  • 2 tablespoons almond flour (optional)
  • ¼ cup milk (any kind)
  • ⅓ cup Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce
  • Pinch of smoked paprika

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Shred the sharp cheddar cheese using a box grater.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the Bisquick and almond flour (if using).
  4. Add the turkey sausage and shredded cheddar to the bowl. Use your hands to mix until evenly distributed, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. If the mixture seems dry, add milk one tablespoon at a time until it holds together when pressed.
  6. Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, portion the mixture and roll into smooth balls about 1 to 1½ inches in diameter. Place on the prepared baking sheet, spacing about 1 inch apart.
  7. Bake for 18-22 minutes, until deep golden brown on the bottoms and edges, and internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) for turkey sausage.
  8. While the balls bake, make the dipping sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together Dijon mustard, honey, hot sauce, and smoked paprika. Adjust to taste.
  9. Let the sausage balls cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before serving. Serve warm with the hot honey mustard.

Notes

For best results, use block cheese and shred it yourself. Turkey sausage is leaner; if using pork, drain on paper towels after baking. The hot honey mustard can be adjusted for heat or sweetness. Sausage balls can be shaped ahead and refrigerated for up to 4 hours before baking.
