Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (240ml) milk
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil)
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups (240g) of all-purpose flour, 2 tablespoons of sugar, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk 1 cup (240ml) of milk, 1 egg, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- Gradually combine the wet and dry ingredients until you have a smooth batter.
- In a deep frying pan or Dutch oven, heat about 2 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a candy thermometer to monitor the temperature.
- Using a tablespoon or small cookie scoop, drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil. Fry in small batches to avoid overcrowding. Cook for about 1-2 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the bites and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Once slightly cooled, generously dust the bites with powdered sugar. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
Keep the oil temperature steady at 350°F (175°C) for even frying. Avoid overmixing the batter to maintain a light texture. Fry in small batches to prevent overcrowding and ensure even cooking.
