- 1 1/2 cups (225 g) blueberries
- 1/4 cup (50 g) granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon (7 g) cornstarch
- 2–3 tablespoons cream cheese, softened (optional)
- 1 egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
- 1/2 cup (60 g) powdered sugar
- 1–2 tablespoons (15–30 ml) milk
Instructions
- Prepare the Blueberry Filling: In a small saucepan, combine blueberries, sugar, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Cook over medium heat, stirring, until thickened (about 5 minutes). Let it cool completely.
- Prep the Puff Pastry: Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface to a rectangle about 10×12 inches.
- Add the Fillings: Spread a thin layer of softened cream cheese down the center of the pastry, leaving a 1-inch border. Spoon the cooled blueberry filling on top.
- Shape the Danish: Use a knife or pizza cutter to cut diagonal strips along both sides of the filling. Fold the strips over the filling, alternating sides to create a braid-like pattern.
- Chill: Transfer the Danish to a parchment-lined baking sheet and chill in the fridge for 15 minutes.
- Bake: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Brush the Danish with egg wash and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
- Glaze: While the Danish cools slightly, mix powdered sugar with milk to make the glaze. Drizzle over the Danish and serve warm.
Notes
Keep the puff pastry cold for best results. Avoid overfilling to prevent sogginess. Let the blueberry filling cool completely before assembling.
