  • Author: Sarah
  • Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
  • Yield: 9 squares 1x

Description

These caramel apple squares combine the nostalgic flavors of caramel-dipped apples with a crumbly, cinnamon-spiced crust, making them the perfect fall dessert to share or enjoy yourself.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 medium apples (about 2 cups), peeled and diced
  • 1 ½ cups (190g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup (100g) brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ cup (115g) cold unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon flour (for apple filling)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (for apple filling)
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • ½ cup (120ml) caramel sauce
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • ¾ cup (70g) rolled oats
  • ½ cup (100g) brown sugar (for topping)
  • ½ cup (190g) all-purpose flour (for topping)
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon (for topping)
  • ½ cup (115g) cold unsalted butter (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease an 8×8-inch or 9×9-inch baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, mix 1 ½ cups of flour, ½ cup of brown sugar, and ½ teaspoon of cinnamon. Cut in ½ cup of cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press it evenly into the bottom of the baking dish.
  3. Peel and dice 3 medium apples. Toss them with 1 tablespoon of flour, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and a pinch of nutmeg. Spread the apples over the crust.
  4. Drizzle ½ cup of caramel sauce over the apples. Sprinkle with a pinch of sea salt.
  5. In another bowl, combine ¾ cup of rolled oats, ½ cup of brown sugar, ½ cup of flour, and ½ teaspoon of cinnamon. Cut in ½ cup of cold butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over the caramel layer.
  6. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the caramel is bubbling.
  7. Let the squares cool completely before slicing to allow the caramel to set.

Notes

Let the squares cool completely before slicing to ensure clean cuts. Use tart apples like Granny Smith for the best flavor balance. If the topping browns too quickly, cover the dish loosely with foil.
